Independent Bookstore Day promises to delight book lovers of all ages and interests thanks to the incredible combination of authors, events, and exciting day-of activities planned at over 400 participating independent bookstores across the nation.

Bookstore Crawl with 8 other Indie Bookstores, including right here at the UCSD Bookstore, in San Diego! For 3 days! Travel around San Diego to get your passport stamped for great prizes, including a limited edition Bookstore Crawl 2018 canvas tote to hold all your new books! Check out our website & social media for details on how to participate.

All Day Saturday

• Literary trivia throughout the day – with literary prizes every hour.

• Craft Stations featuring coloring tables, posters, and literary games for all ages.
• Storytelling with Scott Paulson & His Teeny Tiny Pit Orchestra. Thanks to the UC San Diego Library, proud to support the UCSD Bookstore and Indie Bookstore Day with this musical visit.   

11am-2pm : Belinda’s Cocina will be parked at the library walk entrance, stop by for delicious tacos.
11am-2pm : Photo Booth – take cute pics as your favorite literary character or just for fun.


Noon-1pm :
Susie Ghahremani is the award-winning illustrator of a number of picture books, including her author-illustrator debut: Stack the Cats — awarded a Best Picture Book of 2017 by Kirkus. She exhibits her original paintings internationally, and uses her artwork in developing a popular collection of stationery and gifts titled Boygirlparty, ranked among the top 20 Art shops on Etsy. 2pm-3pm : David Brin and Stephen Potts in conversation together to discuss their book Chasing Shadows: Visions of Our Coming Transparent World.
David Brin is an astrophysicist whose international best-selling novels include The Postman, Earth, and recently Existence. Dr. Brin serves on advisory boards (e.g. NASA's Innovative and Advanced Concepts program or NIAC) and speaks or consults on a wide range of topics including AI, SETI, privacy and national security. His nonfiction book about the information age - The Transparent Society - won the Freedom of Speech Award of the American Library Association.
